About

About
Mary Sophie-Thérèse Tacchella is an award-winning fine artist, working across visual art, abstract acrylic painting,
digital abstract art, photography, and fragments.
All of their work is rooted in abstraction as a way of questioning essence.
Their fragments need not be read as sentences.
By encountering art that disrupts words and grammar, people can shift from their usual thought patterns to a different perspective. That is what they hope for.
Their fragments need not be read as sentences. Simply look at them and receive them. Trust your own translation. You need not know my intent or others' interpretations.
Your own translation is sufficient. That is who you are.
Artist Statement
These works arise from a zone where life and non-life are not yet distinct.
What remains is not language, but its residue.
If something is felt here,
it does not belong to the work.
It occurs elsewhere.
Q & A
・ How do you create Visual fragment?
Fragments made with words have returned to abstract art.
Here, words are not the main focus.
These are fragments in which letters are absorbed into and blended with the abstract art.
They have always avoided expression through words or letters, because they are not a universal language.
That is why they have worked through abstract expression in images.
Language has no words or letters that truly match their images.
There are no perfectly fitting clothes, socks, hats, or gloves.
Their original fragments do not need verbs or auxiliary verbs.
Translating images into language was an extremely difficult task.
To remain abstract and open—
hoping that, from there, people might sense the presence they wish to convey, they returned to image-centered work.
・ How should I interpret your poetry?
My fragments are abstract art. By encountering art that disrupts words and grammar, people can shift from their usual thought patterns to a different perspective. That is what I hope for. My fragments need not be read as sentences. Simply look at them and receive them. Trust your own translation. You need not know my intent or others' interpretations. Your own translation is sufficient. That is who you are.
・ What are your principles for writing fragments?
Avoid poeticizing
Preserve fragmentation
Refrain from explanation
Subjects are not human
Do not succumb to sentimentality
Do not supplement causal relationships
Leave blank spaces and breaks as they are
Avoid leaning toward grammatical “over-correctness”
・ Why did you stop submitting your work to contests?
Most contests are organized by groups of volunteers rather than professional curators, and for me, they hold no real meaning. I do not consider this an issue, especially on social media.
My interest is limited strictly to a small number of curators working with specific museums and galleries. Beyond that, I have no interest at all.
Although the true intentions are often unclear, I do not trust contests or publications based on pay-to-play models, vanity presses, or paid anthologies, and I avoid them entirely.
For the same reason, I am not interested in competitions run by camera manufacturers. I consider them a form of promotional activity rather than a fair or independent evaluation.

Hi dear Mary. Most welcome sweetie. You are one interesting person and artist. (S, 4/5/2011)
Ciao!
